Discount Calculator

Sale price after discount, savings and price with tax.

—You pay
—You save
—Total discount

Shopping a sale? The discount calculator shows the price you will actually pay, how much money you save, and the combined effect of stacked discounts such as “30% off plus an extra 10% at checkout”. Add your local sales tax to see the final total at the till.

How to use it

  1. Enter the original price and the discount percentage.
  2. If there is a second discount, enter it in “Extra discount”. Leave it at 0 otherwise.
  3. Add sales tax if it is charged on top of the sale price.

How stacked discounts work

Two discounts are not added together. The second one applies to the already reduced price. So 30% off followed by an extra 10% off is a total discount of 37%, not 40%:

Final = Price × (1 − d1/100) × (1 − d2/100) × (1 + tax/100)

On a 100 item: 100 × 0.70 = 70, then 70 × 0.90 = 63. You save 37.

Frequently asked questions

Is tax calculated before or after the discount?

In most places, including US states, sales tax is charged on the discounted price, which is how this calculator works.

How do I find the original price from a sale price?

Divide the sale price by (1 − discount/100). A 60 item that is 25% off was originally 60 ÷ 0.75 = 80.
